Babalu Aye / St Lazaro
Feast Day
December 17th
Today is the Feast of Saint Lazarus, known in the Santeria as Babalú-Ayé.
He is the Patron Saint of the poor and suffering who in turn brings miraculous healings, health ,
wealth and abundance.
The name Babalú-Ayé translates to "Father, lord of the Earth" and points to the authority he exercises on all things earthly, including the body, wealth, and physical possessions.
He symbolizes the values of humility and compassion. He is associated with compassion for his suffering followers, but may scold or punish those who fail to show appropriate compassion to those who are sick
or suffering.
It is considered dangerous to ridicule or ignore the sick or poor beggar, because any one of them might be Babalú-Ayé in human disguise.

Number 17
Sack cloth, Coffee, Cigars, Rum, Beans, grains and popcorn
